CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Apollo Justice
AGE: 22
CANON: Ace Attorney

CANON HISTORY: Wiki
CANON PERSONALITY:
Apollo Justice is, at his core, a very serious person, and as such, he wishes to be treated seriously. His profession as a lawyer is certainly nothing to sneeze at, so when he's kicked out of crime scenes, especially when the officer or detective on duty assumes he's just a brat playing detective, it causes him no end of annoyance. But he's an extremely stubborn person and sticks to his guns no matter how grim the situation gets. It's kind of his job to be stubborn, after all, if he didn't give his all in every trial, then innocent people would get unjust guilty verdicts. In Turnabout Serenade, Apollo believed in one of the witnesses, Lamiroir, that she did hear the crime being committed through a small window she passed by. Even with the entire court telling him she was lying or it wasn't possible, Apollo stood by her statements and trusted her testimony.

Apollo is very much an all or nothing person, his emotions tend to go in extremes. When Apollo finds a lead he can count on in court, he becomes confident, sometimes extremely so. He'll be so proud and sure of his case one moment, and almost dare the prosecutor to find a fault with his reasoning. Only to be shot down mere moments later when it is that his logic and evidence aren't adding up, causing him to lose all his bravado and become quite flustered. He stumbles over his words, usually ending with some embarrassed cry of agony at realizing what little case he had was just thrown out the window and he has to start from scratch. He gets extremely scared in pressuring situations, as well. In his first case alone, he felt as if he was going to faint before the trial hardly even began. And meeting the wife of a yakuza boss brought him near tears. Apollo spends a majority of his time stressed out from the crazy situations his clients and cases get him involved in.

And for all those bizarre situations he's stuck with, his default reaction to all of them is sarcasm and deadpan realism. Trucy invites him to join the talent agency as a defense attorney, and his reaction is to say he's going home. His clients certainly aren't exempt from this behavior, either, though he does at least have the tact not to always voice these opinions. One time a client mispronounced his last name as "Yoostis", and Apollo's reaction was to think "That's 'Justice'. Better learn to say it if you ever want to get some." Even Apollo has limits for his sometimes rather stupid clients, even if he does believe in their innocence above all else. Despite how he can get rather irritated with his clients, he refuses to abandon them no matter how grim the situation may get.

As such, it's clear to see that Apollo is a selfless and caring person. He ultimately believes in finding the truth over just getting a 'not guilty' verdict. In his very first case, he put his own job in jeopardy by accusing his boss of murder, claiming it wasn't about being loyal, it was about finding the truth. He's an incredibly earnest person, wearing his heart on his sleeve. He cried two times in his own game, once when he thought his friend Trucy had been kidnapped, and again when his client Vera opened her eyes after being in a coma during her own trial. Though he may appear to be prickly and hard to approach, he does genuinely care for people when he warms up to them. But in that same note, it's not easy to earn his trust. He may have started out as a blindly trusting person in his first case, but being betrayed by his own boss and client (his boss was found guilty of murder, his client gave him forged evidence and didn't tell him until after the trial), it takes a bit longer for Apollo to warm up to people now. It took him the entire course of the game to trust Phoenix Wright, and he was certainly skeptical of meeting Klavier Gavin in trial. Apollo did eventually come to trust the prosecutor, after learning Klavier didn't look down on him and did actually find him competent in the courtroom.

But if there is one thing that gets under Apollo's skin, it's being looked down on and feeling as though everyone around him has the need to point out facts for him. Apollo claims hating how he always has to take his cues from Klavier, as if he's being guided through the trial. It's more than possible for him to be a team player, but Apollo prefers being able to independently go through a case on his own wit and intelligence. It's a bit of a sting to his pride when his 15 year old magician assistant is better at pointing out flaws in testimony and showing him when and where to present evidence. He gets better as the cases going on with picking up on where he needs to be careful, particularly when the prosecution is especially calm during moments that should be damaging to the case.

And he's a fucking weirdo. He spends hours in the early morning screaming at a mirror "I'm Apollo Justice and I'm fine" and claims it gets him psyched up for a trial. Who the fuck does that. This guy.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Perceive: Apollo was born with naturally incredible eyesight that gives him the ability to see extremely clearly, enough so that he can even pick up on very subtle movements from people around him. When someone is nervous, they naturally give off some sort of physical habit or tic. Apollo's incredible eyesight is able to pick up on this nervousness, as the bracelet he wears around his wrist constantly will tighten when he himself reacts to it. Once he is aware someone is lying to him, his eyesight enhances, giving him the ability to see the person in front of him in slow motion. During this time, he is able to see so clearly and with such detail, he will be able to pick out the person's nervous habit and prove they were lying.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Apollo Justice
AU AGE: 22
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: None.

AU HISTORY:
✴ Born in Los Angeles, California, Apollo and his family had a fairly comfortable life for 6 months until his father died in an accident while performing on stage.
✴ A few months later, Apollo's mother gave him up to the foster system. Although Apollo is never explicitly told why his mother gave him up, he was at least left with his golden bracelet and a letter explaining she didn't want to give him up and she loves him dearly.
✴ The caretakers of him and the other foster children were generally decent people, they cared about the children that they watched over, but at the same time never made any effort to get particularly close to anyone. Sort of like when you babysit for a stranger or someone you don't know that well. They were just nice enough for the children to grow up healthy.
✴ His life from that point on was fairly normal, he attended public school when he was old enough, and it was clear to see early on he was very developed in his studies due to how much extra time he put into studying to better his grades. He was never able to skip a grade, but his grades were always extremely good.
✴ Since Apollo was so focused on his studies, he didn't fit in with other kids as much as he would have liked. He was fortunate to never be bullied or intentionally isolated, but he was always burdened with the feeling that it was a challenge for him to feel like he belonged anywhere.
✴ When he was in elementary school, Apollo befriended a kindly old lady in his neighborhood (he simply called her "Nana" at her request) and Apollo believes she is the closest thing he has to a mother in his life. Even after he moves away, she continues to stay in touch with him and sends him care packages a few times a month.
✴ Though Apollo was never that interested in extracurricular activities, he was told during middle school he had a decent singing voice and thus tried out for the school choir. He was accepted and continued to sing even in high school.
✴ He was once taken in by a kindly family when he was 10 years old, and for a time, he was quite happy with his new family in a proper home. Unfortunately, he was returned into the foster system a few short months later, as the family chose they no longer wanted someone as loud and rambunctious as Apollo. And although being told he was unwanted did crush him for a while, he refused to let it affect him long term, and began a mantra of screaming "I'm fine" to himself over and over to raise his spirits.
✴ Around this time, Apollo concocted a plan to find his biological mother, though he couldn't act on it quite yet being so young. As the years went on and he went back and forth between a couple other homes, his desire to search out his mother as the one person in the world who truly did love him grew stronger.
✴ His studies increased early on his high school as he prepared to take the entrance exam for Recolle University very early on. The dream to become a lawyer first ignited as he realized he saw the scales of justice, and told himself there was no better calling for someone named "Justice" than to become a lawyer and help those who needed it.
✴ As an unintended side effect of Apollo throwing himself into his studies, it became harder for him to connect with his classmates and peers. So what little he did hang out with people who could be considered friends grew even less and less as the months went on, and his study groups became his main social circle. He still attended the school choir, but mainly as an outlet for him to lessen his stress from schoolwork.
✴ He graduated near the top of his class with honors, but nothing special like valedictorian, and it was enough for him to land a scholarship to Recolle University, his top choice. As soon as he turned 18, Apollo immediately prepared the move from Los Angeles to Recolle (a fairly easy move as he didn't have many personal belongings).
✴ He enrolled in criminal law courses as soon as he was able, and moved into the dorms for convenience. Thinking of this as a fresh start for himself, Apollo began branching himself out a little more socially so as not to stagnate and isolate himself like in Los Angeles. He began a small tutoring job on the side, as well as an employee at the Tea Kittle. He's also a lounge singer on occasional weekends when he needs to unwind, but he never tells anyone about that job.

AU PERSONALITY:

Apollo's AU personality isn't all that vastly different from his canon one, though there are a few distinct changes. One is that he's far more willing to be outgoing and make friends even if he struggles with it. Having recently moved to a new city, he discovered he doesn't quite like being alone despite how nice it sounds. So he's taken to involving himself in part time jobs that are specific to engaging with other people, such as working at the Tea Kittle and tutoring high school students.

The upside to him having grown up mostly on his own is that Apollo is extremely independent. While in canon he's not opposed to receiving help, in Recolle, he is very much a "don't worry about me" type of person. He always tries to handle his struggles on his own, really only seeking out aide or advice as a last resort. Because of this, he feels that if people offer to help him get by, even with the best of intentions, it's a slight blow to his pride, and it makes him feel like he's being pitied or taken to be a charity case. He'll get a little defensive when this happens and insist he's fine, but if it's coming from someone he trusts and cares about, he'll calm down and graciously accept the aide.

He's much more vocal about his love for law in Recolle, having taken more time to learn even more and gets excited about all the new tactics he can use in the courtroom. Even if the courses cause him no end of stress, he still has an undying love for law, and if given the opportunity, will gladly talk the ear off of any friends kind enough to let him ramble on, even going so far as to offer (amateur) legal advice. He's much more focused in Recolle since it's simply homework he has to focus on, and not full blown court cases with someone's life hanging in the balance. He's a bit more resourceful since he doesn't have the access to things a full fledged lawyer would have, so he makes do with what he has available to him. Which tends to be asking other university students for their input on things in fields he's not familiar with.

Having not been through a train wreck of betrayals like he was in canon, Apollo is much more willing to trust his peers and those around him. He won't be so suspicious and doubting of people at the first meeting, and will even be friendly and cordial to new acquaintances. Of course, he's certainly not stupid, and definitely doesn't blindly trust a person he just met in a city he's still a bit of a stranger do. He has a healthy amount of skepticism for things if they don't seem just right, but does trust friends and those close to him without a second thought.
